New Armed Forces Veterans ID Card Rolled Out

A new ID card for Armed Forces veterans, which will help them access specialist support and services, has started to be issued to service leavers.

This new card can be used to provide proof of service in HM Armed Forces in line with the Government definition of a Veteran, which is one day’s service. It will also make it easier for companies to confidently verify that someone has served in the Armed Forces.

Delivery of the cards will be rolled out in two tranches:

Phase 1
From 18th February 2019, any personnel who left the military from December 2018 will automatically be given one of the new ID cards, which will allow them to maintain a tangible link to their Armed Forces career.

Phase 2
A process for applications from the wider Veteran Community is being outlined and information on how to apply will be made available before the end of 2019.

There is no need to register an interest in the cards at this stage. More information will be announced by the MOD later in the year.
