Three Mitsubishi L200 pick-up trucks will lend support during the 300-mile bike ride scheduled for August 29th to 31st, with riders starting from Twickenham Stadium in the UK and finishing at Compiegne in France, the site of the First World War Armistice. The Mitsubishi L200s will carry bikes, spare parts and other support equipment for the duration of the ride and will be driven by members of Rugby for Heroes who will provide back-up and assistance to the riders.
The ride will culminate in a ceremony at the Armistice site on September 1st, followed by a rugby match at Compiegne RC, between a Rugby for Heroes XV and a Compiegne XV. Rugby legend Mike Tindall MBE, who is also patron of Rugby for Heroes, along with ex-France international Serge Betson, will be joined by a number of service personnel for the ride and the match.
Mike said: “The Armistice 100 Bike Ride & Match will join the rugby and forces communities together and allow us, as members of the rugby community, to honour those who shared our passion for the game and who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the First World War. It will be a privilege to ride alongside some of our nation’s heroes as we pay our respects in this important anniversary year.”
Rob Lindley, managing director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said: “We are pleased to provide the three L200 support vehicles, for such a worthwhile cause, and to help commemorate the First World War Armistice 100. We wish all the riders and participants on the ride to Compiegne the very best of luck.”
Simon Bailey, Rugby for Heroes Chair of Trustees, responded: “The Armistice 100 Trilogy of events to commemorate the centenary of the First World War Armistice are central to the charity's efforts this year. The vehicles that have been provided generously by Mitsubishi Motors will be a fantastic asset to the team, ensuring that our riders have the support they need to complete the event safely.
