At last, the latest Peugeot 508SW weighs in

It has taken a few months to ramp up production but the right-hand drive versions of Peugeot’s enticing new 508 estate car are soon to hit our shores, states Iain Robertson, and they are sure to satisfy an important new car middle ground.

Bringing sharp design, a finely honed driving experience, exceptional build quality and high levels of technology to the medium size estate car sector, the all-new Peugeot 508SW is available in Active, Allure, GT Line, GT and, for an exclusive limited-number only, First Edition, trims. The order books are now open and deliveries are set to commence from 1st July onwards.

All 508SW models feature the latest version of the firm’s i-Cockpit, with its configurable 12.3-inch head-up digital instrument panel, either a ten-inch, or eight-inch trim-dependent supplemental touchscreen and the signature small-diameter, multi-function steering wheel. A host of safety features is also incorporated, including Emergency Brake Assist and speed limit recognition and recommendation. MirrorLink with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included as standard equipment across the range.

The 508SW comes with two new petrol and four diesel engine options, based on the 1.6-litre PureTech, 1.5-litre BlueHDi and 2.0-litre BlueHDi engines. By October this year, a 225bhp PHEV version, providing power to the front wheels using 1.6-litre PureTech 180bhp engine allied to a 110bhp electric motor.

Active trim features stylish 17.0-inch diameter alloy wheels as standard, alongside Peugeot’s Connected 3D sat-nav, with live updates, electric driver’s seat-base and lumbar adjustment, automatic headlights and DAB radio. Pre-discount prices for the Active trim start from £26,845.

In Allure trim (and standard on all petrol versions), the all-new 508 SW gets Active Suspension, plus Active Blind Spot Detection and Smartbeam Assistance, as well as PEUGEOT Open and Go (keyless entry and push button start). Inside, there is a 10.0-inch High Definition capacitive touchscreen, electric driver and front passenger seats and a 180-degree colour reversing camera. List prices start from £28,145.

Add £1,750 and the GT Line bolsters its specification with self-levelling full LED headlights, as well as the enhanced Amplify version of the i-Cockpit, which allows customers to change the interior lighting balance, as well as the engine note through an active speaker symposer. The full GT model is available from £38,020 (prior to discounts being applied) and features the company’s Drive Assist Pack Plus, with Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Positioning Assist. Also included is a premium HiFi speaker system, Nappa Mistral full grain leather seat trim and 19.0-inch ‘Augusta’ diamond-cut two-tone alloy wheels.

The UK will receive only 75 First Edition models, with prices starting from £40,819. On top of the GT specification, the First Edition versions feature Night Vision technology that can spot pedestrians and even animals up to 200m ahead of the vehicle’s headlight range, alerting drivers via the main, digital instrument panel. First Edition models will also come with Visio Park 3, a 360-degree colour reversing camera and fully automated parking assistance.
