From the company that launched its T-Roc range earlier this year, with a petrol-only line-up, the company has now decided to introduce not one but two diesel models. The 1.6-litre TDi is available with a six-speed manual gearbox and develops a modest 112bhp, accompanied by 184lbs ft of torque. It is a good engine in front-wheel-drive form and it has been WLTP tested to result in CO₂ exhaust emissions of 115g/km. The punchier alternative is VW’s popular 2.0-litre TDi with 4MOTION four-wheel drive. It develops a maximum of 147bhp with a whopping 250lbs ft of torque, ideal for towing purposes.
The new diesels supplement the petrol offering of a 1.0-litre TSi and the 1.5-litre EVO engine, with cylinder shut-down. The T-Roc is available in five trim levels. Starting with the T-Roc S, which is available from £18,955 (rrp), the range climbs through the SE, Design, SEL and on to the T-Roc R-Line with its sportier styling at £27,010, before FCD discounts are applied to make the car significantly more affordable.
Every T-Roc is equipped with an eight-inch colour touchscreen and Volkswagen’s Composition Media infotainment system. This allows simultaneous pairing of two compatible mobile devices and includes a CD player and DAB radio. The safety quota includes Front Assist, which uses radar to scan the area in front of the car and applies the brakes automatically in an emergency situation. Halogen clear headlights with separate LED daytime running lights also feature, as does 2Zone electronic climate control and electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors.
SE trim adds Adaptive Cruise Control, among a host of other features. T-Roc Design has contrasting roof colour options, plus coloured dash-pads and interior door panels, and T-Roc SEL adds sat-nav. R-Line models gain 19-inch ‘Suzuka’ alloy wheels and other sporty styling additions.
