Mini pursues a ‘more affordable’ route with Clubman City

Intended for the company car market, reports Iain Robertson, if you want a BMW Mini but are concerned about high list prices, you can now order the bigger, more spacious but still frugal estate car version in Clubman City guise.

Definitely business-focused, the latest Mini model combines useful features, including satellite navigation and park distance control, with highly competitive running costs and (for the business person) lower Benefit-in-Kind personal taxation rates. The result is an economical option for fleet customers that satisfies both head and heart.

The sat-nav operates through the signature circular dial in the centre of the Mini’s dashboard, with its 6.5-inch display, however, Apple Car Play, DAB, Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) and Intelligent Emergency Calling (E-call) and Rear Park Distance Control (PDC) are all standard, as well as Bluetooth hands-free functionality. Air conditioning, a sports steering wheel and cruise control are all carried over from the Mini Clubman standard equipment list. MINIMALISM Fuel Saving Technology is fitted to every Mini Clubman model, with features that include automatic stop/start, brake energy regeneration and a shift-point display.

The Clubman City rides on 16.0-inch Revolite spoked alloys, although 17.0-inch alternatives are available as a free upgrade, or an extra-cost 17.0-inch Black Net Spoke option is also offered. Run-flat tyres are an additional upgrade. Three models are available, two petrol and one diesel variant, all of 1.5-litres capacity and with three cylinders. Exhaust emissions of 109g/km (CO2 diesel auto; 130/131 for auto/manual petrols) are the lowest of any Clubman model and each of them meets the new WLTP test regime.

The diesel-auto is the quickest and most economical model, topping 119mph, with 0-60mph in 10.5s, returning 68.9mpg, while the petrol alternative manages 115mph, with 0-60mph in 11.0s (11.3s, auto) and fuel returns of 48.7mpg (man), 49.6mpg (auto). With high levels of grip and fun handling, the Mini retains its place at the top of the dynamics charts.

Renowned for its split-rear doors, the Mini Clubman City retains its stretched body design and use of high-grade materials throughout. It offers decent luggage capacity and enough room for five occupants. The new model offers high levels of versatility and flexibility, whether used for business, or pleasure motoring, and list prices start at £19,995 before applying FCD discounts.

FCD Summary

The BMW, while not a default option for many people, remains highly desirable on both style and presence fronts. FCD can ensure that you obtain the best deal possible on a new Mini, with full manufacturer back-up. Just ask for details.
