The changes only apply to new diesel cars and do not impact the subsequent £140 yearly fees all cars have to pay after the first year.

Price Protection:
Prices changes relating to the new VED rates applicable from 1st April 2018 will be passed on to the customer as these are dictated by the Government and outside of the scope of Forces Cars Direct’s price protection.
- Vehicles registered on or before 31st March 2018 will not be affected by the new VED rates and resulting OTR increase
- Vehicles registered on and after 1st April 2018 will be subject to the VED rates and resulting OTR increase.
These changes follow an initial change to VED rates made in April 2017. At this time, new rates brought higher first-year fees for all cars, plus subsequent rates with a blanket £140 fee. Only electric and other zero-emissions cars are now tax exempt.
In November 2017 the Government announced further changes, with buyers of new diesel cars to face higher rates. These are the changes that we are seeing come into play from 1st April 2018.
